Habitat

We are living in a world where drones are not a matter of science fiction anymore. They are more present than ever and they are slowly becoming part of our everyday life. From delivery drones to hobby drones, surveillance drones and war drones, they are being used in an increasing variety of roles. Recently, drones were used to replace fireworks. Technical capabilities keep evolving.
People, including the artist, often react strongly to the idea of caged animals, but rarely think about their own freedom. The freedom of the machine is perhaps not a viable concept yet, but, as we strive to render machines autonomous, the idea of feeling empathy towards them like we do for living beings might not be so far off. And where an empathetic attitude exists, antipathy will surely follow.
How well would you be able to function in a cage? How well do you think a bird functions in a cage? How about a fish in an aquarium?
What will we put in cages once birds go extinct and we cannot trap animals anymore?
This installation has been made in collaboration with Jost Krebs and Salmo Albatal.
